why is the world so obsessed with blogs right now? why are they the hottest thing around, and why is everyone starting one? why are they leaking the latest news/rumors, factoring in the presidential election results, and exposing major scandals?

are we acting out the dreams of our youth, to be on TV and be the reporters bringing the news into millions of homes? when you start a blog, you have your own channel, you are the star, the producer, the director and the writer. you can become a celebrity, or you can have a small following of family/friends.

is it something with our generation, our need to be informed at all times? is it because we grew up with access to news 24/7, watching major news networks like CNN? is it simple vanity, that we think others would like to read about the boring and mundane details about our life? or do blogs sometimes serve a greater purpose, like keeping loved ones that we can’t be physically close to up to date on the important things in our lives?

if you have any thoughts or ideas, please share them…

    the information age.

i dont read people’s blogs unless i know/interact with them often. i like to see what’s going on with my friends and i like my friends to know what’s going on with me.

i get a little weirded out when people i dont know read my blog. and i feel dirty when i read people’s blogs that i don’t know.

my comment before was anger and not an actual response…

I keep a blog so when people ask”what’s been going on” I refer them to nicolesutherland.com, I also love displaying pictures of people and non-people.

My blog amuses me and if no one would ever read it, I still would love it.

Yes. All of it. I know I created mine as a place to vent and complain about things that made me mad, then it turned into a place to post about stuff that I was interested in. I don’t know if anyone reads it and if not, its ok, its my own journal. Would it be nice to have lots of people visit? Sure it would! But does it happen? Nah, its just for my own interests.

    Peace.

sometimes i get mixed feelings about my blog…some days i feel like i really want people to read, and i should post more often about cool/important things…but other times, i’m just glad that i don’t have any pressure to write anything, and i like that its just a cool place for me to write down things that are important to me…

I thought I would start a blog so that my family who live far away could see what I am up to and I could hear from them. However, they never leave comments so it makes me mad. I feel much better now. Thanks for having a blog npl.

Am I dirty because I’m reading this blog and I don’t know the author? Perhaps. Actually, after seeing some of the pictures at this site I think I _might_ have gone to high school with some of the guys pictured (Roosevelt 1975, though I live in VT now).

I think blogs are hot because they come very close to delivering what Tim Berners-Lee envisioned when he invented the web. The original web was a two-way street. Browsers not only displayed what the original author created, but were all designed to be editors of that content. Of course in many ways the wiki is even closer, but it hasn’t caught on quite as much as the blog.

Interesting to hear that the Des Moines Register has a blog (is it still the Register and Tribune on Sundays? I remember when they merged…how old are we…)

(apropos of almost nothing, it’s the pictures of Greg and Chad that look particularly familiar–perhaps they’re really just ‘everyman’ and I went to school with ‘everyman’, but who knows…

I have to add that some of the drunkfests look like something I might enjoy…

and finally, FRESH Grolsch is really pretty good…if it hasn’t been stored or handled correctly it is pretty skunky…

    According to CNN:
“A new blog — short for Web log — is created every 7.4 seconds, according to Technorati, a search engine tracking blogs. By most accounts, blogs are more popular and powerful than ever. The number of blogs rose to 8 million, reaching about one-quarter of Internet users, reports The Pew Internet and American Life Project. Pew estimates 32 million people read blogs last year, up 58 percent from 2003. Although the number of people posting and reading blogs is rising, 62 percent of online Americans say they don’t know what the word ‘blog’ means, according to Pew.”
“Blogs are a real force,” said Watson. “They’re not just for geeks anymore.”
